Turn signal flashing question was created by harm
I put some LED turn signals on the back of my 550 but they do not flash. I didn't have any blinkers before. My question is do i need a complete circuit so they will flash? At this time i do not have front signals. My indicator lights are working. I have two flashers that i tried but i am not sure if either are good. I thought i would ask before buying a new flasher.

Thanks!
Tom

Yes, hooking up one side of the turn signals(either both left side or both right side) will complete the curcuit.

Sometimes LED bulbs will not flash with the old style flasher units that were triggered by the load on the circuit. You might need to replace that unit with a new electronic flasher unit available at any auto parts place. Usually $5-$6.

You need a solid-state flasher to use with LED turn signals. They don't draw enough current to make a standard flasher unit flash.

Superbrightleds.com used to sell the flashers.

Okay, i will try a solid-state flasher. So do i also need front signals to complete the circuit as Royal1MC mentioned?

NO. The front and rear turn signals are wired in PARALLEL, so a solid state flasher will flash a single turn signal just fine, or both if they are both connected. The reason stock flashers require both turn signals be connected to work right is the metallic flasher piece requires the current of BOTH front and rear bulbs to make the metal strip hot enough to curve which makes them flash.

Thanks bountyhunter for clearing that up. I didn't fully get the part about the LED's, cause I have never seen them.
