new lock sets for 80 KZ1000...?
15 Aug 2008 11:42 - 15 Aug 2008 11:44
Has anyone needed to change out there ignition, seat and fork locks? and were you able to find the 3 piece keyed alike sets anywhere? My ignition switch is worn out and if i change it, i want to change 'em all, and just have one key for it like originally.Z1 has a 3 piece set, but its for early/mid 70's, the ignition switch looks similar, but i dont know if the fork lock and seat lock would be the same or not?...any ideas guys?...

Why don't you ask Jeff? He has the set listed for your bike.

You can have the new lock rekeyed at a locksmith.it cost me $40. i had to take the lock apart myself and give him the parts.

If your original switch key part is working, you can simply swap the electrics of the new switch into to the key part of your old. Of course if your key part is the ailment on the original switch this wont work and the switch has to be identical Kawasaki, not an Emgo or whatever.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

and i noticed today when i pulled the key it was still in "on" position with the key out ! put the key back in turned it to off,and pulled it out, just for curiosity sake about half way out, i turned it and it went right to "on" position.took the key out,put just the tip of my house key in the slot and it turned to "on",easily. So i guess its worn out, anything will turn the switch on now i guess.
The fork lock hasnt worked right in a long time so i'd like to change it as well while i'm at it.
Ok thanks for that info., i'm thinking theres a problem in the switch maybe running the battery down (28 year old bike)If your original switch key part is working, you can simply swap the electrics of the new switch into to the key part of your old. Of course if your key part is the ailment on the original switch this wont work and the switch has to be identical Kawasaki, not an Emgo or whatever.

Well he has just the replacement ignition switch, which would work if a locksmith could change the seat lock to work with the new key...I mean if i had to i guess i could live with 2 keys to the bike,1 for ignition,1 for seat, but that kinda gets away from original setup. Why don't you ask Jeff? He has the set listed for your bike.
