My 1978 KZ650 doesn't hold it's charge for more than a day or two.

I accidently left the trickle charger on for about 16 hours, now when I put it on, the battery makes a bubbling type of sound.

?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Make sure to return your old battery when you buy the new one for a discount and o help save the environment.

Make sure you do not throw it in the trash.

All this from me and I am not even a tree hugger.

Good Luck.

Rockin\' a KZ650B2 since 2007 and a KZ 1000E since 2008

they do that. its normal.

well let me rephrase that... its normal for them to do that when theyre fully charged. when theyre fully charged the charge has to go somewhere and its converted to a gas. batteries vent themselves because of that. your battery is probably fine. only way to tell is to load test it. fully charged lead acid battery will show approx. 12.8 volts. if your battery doesnt show at least 12.5 volts chances are its bad....that without a load. all lead acid batteries will do this to some degree while charging. if its a clear case battery you will see bubbles stuck to the plates. just tap the battery and make the bubbles surface. if its a fairly new battery you can cycle it a few times and revive it. when a battery is "dead" the plates get a buildup on them which makes them not able to carry as much current as before.

If the battery only holds a charge for a day or so its either got a bad cell or some serious voltage draw on it. Disconnect the + cable and put a voltmeter between the battery & the cable with ignition off. No reading eliminates the draw and the battery is the problem. Nothing wrong with load testing it either
