80 KZ650-F1 Alternator Question

I have to buy a new stator and there are a lot on ebay and such. What do I need to watch for to make sure I get a compatible one?

Any purchase on E-Bay should be reguarded with the knowledge that no warrenty is given and a buyer beware exists. Yes a person can get a bargan but if it was me I'd rather go with the known stator rebuilders such as:

ok, so when i asked the question before I ordered a cheap used stator from ebay. I thought I would just see what happened with it. Well it arrived and it looks exactly the same in every way except its like .5 inch larger in diameter and therefore wont fit inside the rotor.

whether i go new or used, how do i make sure i have the right size? everything online looks the same and this one that I got supposedly came off of a 78 kz650 which according to the kawasaki website has the same exact stator.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
