Welcome to KZr nagrom68. 
Sounds to me like your starter clutch is the culprit, which seems to be a common wear item in the KZ650/KZ750 engines.
It's not that involved of a repair to remove and rebuild it (the replacement parts are readily available), and the plus is that the engine does NOT need to be pulled from the frame to do this.
If you do a search in the KZr archives under "starter clutch", there's a really good step-by-step thread with pics posted by OnkelB in there that should be able to walk you through it.
