Head light mod?
19 Jun 2008 19:16
Has anyone done a head light mod to their KZ? The light out-put sucks and I was wondering if anyone has done a mod to put HIDs or even a a better then stock bulb in. I was thinking about just taking the stock one out and putting in 2 smaller after market lights from the auto parts store like on the buell bikes. Also my tail light is really dim and it is an aftermarket set up. Almost cant see it from a distance when driving on country roads. Any input on that would aslo be great.

Yes. I chucked the stock one on my '79 750 and replaced it with a 7" round halogen (drops right in). Puts out about 3X as much light.

Nice looking 650.

I use a 7" halogen as well. Just plug in and go. Well there is some disassembly to remove the old, then install the new.
Can't see your tail light in the picture.
The stock one is bright enough.
The one you have may be smaller, or the lens darker/thicker, or uses an LED bulb, which some find not as bright.
You could try switching to a stock light, or another from some other bike.
I'm using one from a '90 something Kawi ZX6E. It's pleny bright, having two bulbs as well.
You could also add some red reflective tape in spots to be more visable to other vehicles at night. I have some on my shock bottoms:
