While other controls(from some of the different models) might not be an exact swap, thay can always be modified to work, with some rewiring.(most of them)
I bought a new one from Jeff at Z1Enterprises,and it has a headlight switch, where I can now turn the headlight on or off.I don't ride with the headlight OFF,but it's sure nice to be able to TURN it off if I'm testing anything electrical,on the bike.
I THINK most of the 750's,900's and the 1000's will work for you,on the 650.

Just to key everyone in on these lists like Sandy posted, they can throw you off a little. Be sure and look at the entire line. For example:
KZ1000-A3A (1979)-Handlebar ('77-'78A1/A2/A2A)
Going by this you would think 1979 KZ1000A3A uses the same exact contol as a 1977A1. Wrong. Always look at the model they have in parentheses at the end for compatible models so in this case A1/A2 are the same but not A3. What it means is 1977-80 KZ1000A1-A4 were all covered on the same parts fiche, but only the A1 and A2 specifically used this part. Didn't know if anyone knew or cared, but thought I'd give it a mention.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I think that I will just go with aftermarket ones and make them work.
