speedo and RPM
18 May 2008 18:02
Anyone know what the speed should be at 5k rpm on a 77 650? My speedo says 60, but I seem to be holding up traffic sometimes:S
The one I have now is from the 79 1000 I parted out, as the speedo was missing when I bought the 650.
Thanks

Thinking most bike speedo's are wildly optimistic, and that an indicated 60mph is closer to an actual 55mph (maybe even less).
So where riding in a 60mph zone with normal traffic running 70mph or better, bike speedo may be at 80mph when keeping pace.
Good Luck!

That's about right as according to MY spedo I'm doing about 5800-6000 rpm at 70mph with stock (16/42) gearing. My 85 mph spedo got trashed in my accident and I now have a 140 mph spedo on the bike, will be curious (have not ridden on freeway yet) what it reads! Have a friend with a cage? Pace each other at various (traffic permitting) speeds and note the difference. Newer car spedos are much more accurate.
