hello i have a 1980 kz 550a1 and i just had to order a new stator for it. After waiting 2 weeks for it get shipped from new york the replacement has 3 wires and the old one only had two I am assuming they shipped me the wrong stator i found the kz 550 a2 stator had 3 wires i figure this is the one they probably sent me is there any way to make this work or not

There's a good chance it'll work if it fits physically. Make sure the outer diameter of the stator is the same for both. Make sure both mount the same and are the same thickness etc so it doesn't come in contact with the flywheel. Also, count the number of pole pieces on the stator (they look like the spokes on the stator). If I recall, the 550A1 has 12 and the 550A2 has 18. That means the flywheel should have 3 magnets attached. Verify this. Then all you need is a 3-phase reg/rec from a 1981 or later 550. There are also many 3-phase reg/recs from 650's and 750's that would work.
