turn signal ground?
25 Apr 2008 15:37
At the end of last season I changed bars on the kz1000 CSR to superbike ones and as a result there was no room for turn signals. They were the kind that mounted onto the handlebars - pretty sweet, sad to see them go.
I now have the right stems to attach the original signals to the headlight. BUT, when dismantling the old signals I found a black wire (I think for grounding purposes)that was screwed into the old signal stem/clamp. I checked out the wiring diagram which didnt offer any help...
SOO, If I put on the old lights and hookup the gray and blue wire but without this black wire will s*it hit the fan? Or should I fangle away to affix the black wires end to somewhere else?

Yep, the black is the ground. You'll need to ground them somehow.
The wiring harness is grounded to the frame, and as far as I know, your bike should have ground lines fed into the headlight shell that you can ground to... whatever way you do it, you have to do it...

You'll have a ground wire on the headlight bulb itself. You can tie into that or possibly if you're lucky they may have extra ground wiring right in the headlight shell waiting to be used.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
