WG Coil Mod and Stock Electronic Ignition
13 Apr 2008 06:44
Just a quick question on the WG coil mod (or the other variations posted). The more searches I do, the more I get confused (which isn't all that hard some times).
I have a 81 KZ650H CSR with stock electronic ignition. I was all set to do Wired George's coil mod, but probably over-analyzed everything before starting. The connections seem pretty straight forward, except for the connection for the Dyna S electronic ignition. I don't have the Dyna S, but have the stock electronic ignition. Do I need to make a connection back to the IC Igniter in this mod, the same way I would with a Dyna S? If so, is the connection made to the Red wire coming from the IC Igniter?
Thanks for any help on this. I don't want to finish the mod and not have any fire.

The WG coil mod does not need to be connected to the IC Igniter.
The IC Igniter does need to have it's red wire connected to a power source though.

Re: WG Coil Mod and Stock Electronic Ignition
13 Apr 2008 17:31Thanks. After I posted I took another look at the wiring schematic and realized I was thinking incorrectly. I had seen another post where someone had stated that they couldn't get any fire after doing the mod and had commented that the igniter didn't have power. They had also reversed the connections on 87 and 30 on the relay and jumpered 87A to something else.
I completed the mod this morning and it is working great.
