Original Keys - Where to Try? was created by Ilbikes
Several years back, I bought 100+ nos keys from a dealer going out of business. I picked out the ones I needed for my '70 H1, A7 Avenger, several triples, and gave the rest away to friends on the triples board, triple owner friends, and the rest I gave to Rick Bret.
Now I need a key for my KZ900 just aquired and have not found a source. I've watched on EBay for a while and so far no luck. I remember there being a few of those crested keys, but that was many moons ago.
Can one of you point me to a source that might have the original Lion Crest keys, please? I've tried Ellen at Reproduction Decals, Keymen only can sell me aftermarkets.
Thanks,
Gordon

Look at the seat lock or the fork lock. One or the other will have a number
on it, Take that number to a good locksmith and he can make you a key.
It's worked for me in the past.
The only problem will be if that year bike had two sets of keys.
One for fork/seat and a separate ignition key.
Or you can just watch the adds for a new/used switch with a key.
Last but not least you can take the switch out and give it to a locksmith.
If he/she is any good at all they can make a key.
The last one can be costly though.

Good idea FastKaw1!
I did the same years ago and it really wasn't all that expensive either.
But judging from his post I think he's looking for the OEM key, not just a key copy using whatever key blank will work.
Gordon,
My suggestion would be to locate a Kawi dealership near you that has been around a long time (at least since the late 70's/early 80's), as their likely to have carried the pre-cut keys (and OEM blanks) at one time, and just might have either the key number you need or an OEM blank to have one cut.
I think the Kawi dealership I once worked at still has a few of the old keys in stock (they've been there since the early/mid 70's).
I'll check with them tomorrow and see if they have any of the blanks used for the KZ900 still available and update what I find out.
If you want the pre-cut key for your bike, just shoot me the 3-digit key code in a PM and I'll check for that also.

I have one original key for my 900, but it's missing the rubber (or plastic) part that rims the key. I tried for replacement keys at my Kaw dealer, but no joy. I found a local locksmith that could cut a new key from the number on the original key. It's shaped differenly, and doesn't look like a Kaw key, but it fits the lock.
