advancer lubing for total newbie fools
27 Jan 2008 19:20
hey all,
ok, i've looked all over the archives and the kawasaki twin owners archive for threads on advancer lubing and i'm still confused. i'm scared to hurt the bike as it's my daily rider. could anyone has the time and patience walk me through it?
thanks

Hook 'em Horns!?? And I bet your bike is burnt orange too!
The advancers are not complicated, just make sure to carefully mark all your timing positions for reference.
Don't know if it's really kosher, but I don't personally even take the plate off, I just blow the crud out with a compressor or brake cleaner and then spray around behind the plate with dry lube. I'm sure someone will chime in here to put me in my place soon...

Manual says a thin layer of grease on barrel shaft, when I installed my Dyna S they said a thin layer of oil! I like the thought of the oil better as grease can gel up over time?

For about a buck you can buy a small tube of ignition 'grease' from AutoZone. It is a dielectric grease with the desired properties.

The dielectric grease is the ticket it stays on better and doesnt seem to collect dirt and crud like petroleum based lube.
