Not kz related, but still motor related. I have recently just rebuilt an ATC 200s. Never had it running before because I just picked it up from an old farmer. Compression was very low, so I rebuilt it first. Now that I got the motor back in, i plugget the 4 wires from the motor into the wiring harness. 2 of these go from the ignitoin to the wiring harness. Even with a new plug, I can only get a spark about every 5th pull, or sometimes not at all. Pretty sure the problem is not the wire, used one from a kz1000, and had the same problem. I believe it is prolly the ignition. The magnet deal attached to the end of the cam turns with every pull. Does anybody have any idea of what the problem could possibly be? Coil? Wire? Ignition?

It's not that certain that you will see every spark. When I'm trouble shooting an engine If I see a spark, any spark, I go on to the next suspected problem.

it is a self excited type of ignition. it needs quick sharp movement to get a hot blue spark.

those are very sensitive to the air gap on the cam and source coil .010~.015.

next is the cdi box resistance any variance of 10% equals a terminal misfire == new box. I used to have the spec.. 650 ohm maybe?? no Insulation Breakdown.

clean up all connections and get the carb close.

quick start fluid to ease the pull start toil

maybe everything is just fine.

Look for good clean ground on coil first.

The ignition systems on the few (dozen) Honda's i've owned have been really bulletproof. If there was a failure here I'd suspect it was in the coil. Tell us, the coil wire was removeable? It wasn't originally 'potted' into place? It's rare for Honda to have a readily replaceable coil wire. What about the coil wire cap, have you eliminated this as well? What about spark quality? Big fat blue or wimpy yellow?

We'll assume you've tried another plug? For the sake of curiosity, what brand are you using?
