Dyna-S on '81 KZ750 question
15 Jan 2008 10:37
My bike comes with an electronic ignition, no points. I have no spark from both coils and verified I have power to both coils ( did the coil mod a while ago) . Both pickup coils measured ok, connections look ok, I'm positive the ignitor is broke. I thought about replacing it with a Dyna-S unit.
Here is the question:
Does the Dyna-S require to have the ignitor working ? I thought the Dyna-S had the electronics build into it. Just got of the phone with a dealer telling me the Dyna-S won't fix my problem I need an ignitor... I'm confused.
Help?

Dyna-S is all you need. It plugs right into the existing coils.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I don't know why a dealer would make a statement like that,, the dyna S is a self-contained system. No igniter necessary. All of the components are contained in the pickups, there is no separate ignitor box.
That is of course unless it was a Kawa dealer,,,

The Dyna S is a complete ignition... It will replace both your current pickup coils and the IC Igniter box. There is no need to buy an new IC Igniter box if the old one has failed unless you want to keep the original configuration. I would be hesitant to go that route since the pickup coils are OLD too....

You can make your own igniter out of commonly available parts for ~$30 or so.
