Spark wire issues...WTF
07 Dec 2007 17:13
Ok I over the past 2 months I have noticed arcing from the spark wires at night so just recently I finally dug up the cash to buy new ones from Z1 Ent. I installed the new ones and the D@MN wires still have electrical arcing running up and down each wire like a strobelight show...which is why my engine has lost a serious ammount of power! I sprayed each header pipe with water and the no.1 cylinder has the most power...I can even hear the difference...somebody help me before I jump from the highest cliff or submerge myself willingly in deepest reservoir
Thanks Guys.

A few suggestions which might help.
Make sure the ceramic on the spark plug is clean - wipe it with a cloth.
Put a dab of dielectric grease on the tip of the plug over which the plug cap goes
Make cure the cap firts right.
Spray WD 40 over the plug wires and coils. It repels moisture and helps prevent arcing, Wet or damp coils and wires used to drive me nuts.

If the new wires are Dyna brand with the caps already built onto the wires, am thinking the caps are designed for fitment on sparkplugs having the screw-on terminal nuts in place at top of the plugs. The Kawasaki version caps may have been fitted to the naked threads atop the spark plugs, which is how the Z1 and KZ900 are designed.
Any chance the new plug wires were attached to the naked sparkplug top threads without first screwing on the sparkplug top terminal nuts? Am thinking this might explain the spark leakage due to poor connections between the caps and plugs.
If the old caps were used with the new plug wires, perhaps the problem is with old deteriorated caps.
And are the correct new sparkplugs installed?
Just a thought.
