wiring harness compatability question

Ok so i am in need of an entire wiring harness for a 1978 kz1000, which bikes have the same or similitar harness? Should i only be looking for the 73-80 kz1000 models or will the police ones will work as well?

I have an 82 kz550 that needed a harness and in haste bought one for an 81. Not even close. I have read a few other posts that say the same thing. My advice, look hard at the wiring diagrams for the same yr bikes and see if anything matches, but I doubt they'll be compatible. Search ebay and salvage yards for the right yr and model harness, you'll be better off in the end.

Thanks and yes i have been looking for a 78 harness but for some reason they are few and far between.

There all hard to find, just keep plugging away, and try the salvage yards. ALL of them if you have to. And make sure they understand the make model and yr you need. I found mine in a conneticut salvage yard, ill try and get the name for you, they did good by me.

I had a friend to have one made and it was a great job.
I'll try and get the info of where he had it made.
Do a search for motorcycle wiring harness and see what you come up with. Roy
