Wiring for integrated turn/brake lights?

I need some wiring help!
I'm using an R1 taillight and I want the turn signals to work it also. It's 2 round lights, so I'd like the right side to flash for right turn, etc. Then both to come on with brake.

It has 2, 2 filament bulbs with separate wiring. If I wire the turn sigs and brake to it I can't separate them. In other words - I could wire it so the right side flashes, but then the brake will only work the right side. If I wire it so the brake works both, then both will flash.

I need some way to keep the brake and turn current separate yet use the same filament. I know people are doing this, but how? It's kinda like a check valve situation I think.

anybody know?
thanks

I just decided to convert my tail light last night and was wondering what the advantage/disadvantage is to using the trailer converter? The integrators made specifically for motorcycles are more expensive at prices of $45 to $100+. Some allow the use of LED's (which I don't think the trailer adapter does), but what else should we consider? Any thoughts?
Thanks

Here's a link to one for $99 at Dennis Kirk...

If the lights don't flash, but they turn on, you probably just need to upgrade the flasher with a solid-state one. There is a warning, however, on the link I gave. It says LED tail lights should use this integrator. Looks similar to the Dennis Kirk one, but half the price. www.flashalert.com/integrator.htm

The $100 one was the reason I designed one from scratch (several different ones, actually), but the trailer integrators are so cheap there's no point to making one. The parts cost more than the whole unit.

It is very easy.
Just buy 4 diodes (a 1 way electrical check valve)from Radio Shack for a couple of bucks.

I just bought one off ebay: Kawasaki-Turn-Signal-Integrator before I saw this post.
I'll let you know how well they work out.

I did just what FloridaBiker is showing and it works fine. You just lose the rear blinker when the brakes are on.

Does anyone have a good reason not to use a trailer harness converter? Seems like it would work OK. I'm guessing that's what the cheaper units are on eBay, but I'm not sure. I just wonder if it's worth spending more money in this case or not. Any thoughts?

RSTNICK, have you received your $10 unit yet? I've been watching those on eBay but the cheap price has me concerned. Let us know what it is and how it works. Thanks

I haven't recieved it yet. When it shows up, I'll take some pix. I'm wondering if it is the trailer one.
I saw a pic of the trailer one, after I bought the ebay one, :pinch: and liked how the trailer one has the wiring connectings printed on it.

I used the trailer one from Auto Zone for about 12 bucks.....works just fine............but, you have to use an EL-12 electronic flasher.........

I've used the trailer converter for trailers before and they worked great. The motorcycle-only manufacturers say "don't use a trailer converter", but I don't see why not?? Why pay more if you don't have to?

What happens with the regular flasher? Do you remember how much the EL-12 was?
