Z1E lists several Dyna coils for KZ750 twin, so assure replacement being correct size/ohms.

3 ohm Accel coil will bolt right on and work, I have never used the Dyna coils so I have no idea if they are bolt on.

Ya need to modify Dyna coil, by drilling out the metal end mounts 90*,and you may have to elongate the bolt holes on the mounting bracket. It's also a bit of a tight fit. Had to do this to get the dynacoil to work w/my '82 M1.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it
I've actually had 2 dynas on mine, Toast. I got a 3ohm one used and the metal end tabs had apparantly already been drilled out for bolt holes @ 90* to the "grommeted holes, and bolted right on, w/a little elongation of 1 mounting plate hole. At the time I thought it came that way but when I bought, the correct, 2.2 ohm coil, the 90* bolt holes weren't there and I had to drill them. Because the coil mounting ends are made of metal plates, they came out looking like U-holes.ronjones wrote:Ya need to modify Dyna coil, by drilling out the metal end mounts 90*,and you may have to elongate the bolt holes on the mounting bracket. Interesting. I think I get you now.
For everyone else's reference, the *standard* replacement Dyna coil for an *early* twin with POINTS is *probably going to be the 5 Ohm (black) one. If you have done any mods to the ignition system, you needs may vary, of course....
By the way, I have a 3 Ohm on my twin with a Newtronic, and a 5 Ohm on the bike with points. I did not need to re-drill the holes or anything like that, and the wires ended up going out the left side.. instead of up or down... which it sounds like yours are doing, Ron...

Ok now I understand what you did vs what I did. If I had used the predrilled "grommeted" holes my plug wires would, indeed, have come out one side or the other. Perhaps, I didn't diddle w/the orientation enough, but I just couldn't seem to get the coil to fit, by having the plug wires comming out the side. I even considered just mounting it somewhere, else, more convienent, on the frame. It must have something to do w/the frame differences of our different models. The 750CSR, seems to have a few quirks, not found on the earlier models.
