Adding onto spark cables..

I got two coils for my 79 KZ 650 free from a friend, used but he put them on a coil tester and they work fine. The only problem is the firing order on the bike is: First coil fires 1 and 3, send fires 2 and 4, I got two of the same coil, and the cables are just barely too short to reach.. Is there a way to make this work...? I really appreciate all the help, I'm so damn ready to ride but I'm completely broke from paying college tuition.
Thanks,

Can't figure why they wouldn't come close to fitting. Have you ever seen the stock routing? I'm assuming that you're problem is with the secondary wires right?

Examine where the plug wire enters into the coil.

Is there a plastic nut encapsulating the wire - if so, thread it off. There should be a rubber insulator behind the nut also encapsulating the wire, this is used to retain the wire (is put under pressure by nut, squeezes down on wire).

Assuming youve seen the above, the cables can be changed seperate of the coils themselves...

Purchase el cheapo spark plug wire set at Napa or Autozone etc - copper core works best, 7mm will be fine. Also pick up a set of 4 plug side boots (NGK manufactures these) suited to your plug type (push on top or threaded top.

Cut coil side of wire, close to the boot. Remove locknut from coil (large plastic cap, will have rubber behind it to capture plug wire) twist wire to the left (usually the tit inside the coil has a right hand thread).

Installation is reverse.

The intent is to seat the core of the plug wire onto the tit, both plug and coil side.

Cut wire to the appropriate length, leave some room for comfortable installation and removal. A little wire loom goes a long way to dress this up.

Twist on your new plug side boot.

This will give you the idea.

Here'a a link to the plug-wire splicer from Z1E:

Z1E Splicer

FWIW, on the large 4's left coil fires #1 and #4 and right coil fires #2 and #3.

Good Luck! :)

Edit -- when sitting on the bike, plugs are numbered from left to right with the far left plug being #1 and the far right plug being #4. So that #1/4 are the outside plugs, and #2/3 are the inside plugs.

Hmmm, could have sworn the coils fired 1 and 3, 2 and 4.. Maybe thats why they wires didnt reach haha.
Also: I left my battery at a Carquest for 2 days to get charged, and now its no good.. I have a feeling it might have been left on trickle charge the whole time, would that cause the battery to not be able to hold a charge.
Thanks,
Ed

No, trickle charging just charges a battery as fast as it discharges itself. It keep the battery charged while not overcharging it and not allowing it to drop.

my guess is the battery was bad to start with, you have to charge them to be able to test a battery
