upgrade from points to?

I have a '78 KZ650b and was wondering if I could switch from points to something more current. Is there an option?

Here's what a lot of us have upgraded to:
Dyna-S Electronic Ignition DS2-2 - Kawasaki KZ550 KZ650 KZ750 .

On my bike it made a world of diff in how it starts and runs compared to the OEM points and condensers. B)

yes its simple to install, just watch mine was backwards, on big deal, I have not any problems with it

Dyna S is a bolt on deal.You might want to consider adding a set of thier coils also

Check in to KZrider first before installing it. I think BSKZ650 was trying to say the instructions are wrong. Others have reported this as well. Some with details should chime in soon.

You can also adapt the electronic ignition from a later model 650 too, or from a 550 & 750; (not from 900 and larger engine easily, but RSTNICK did it).

I did it to my 78 650B and it runs great. I used the pickup coils from a 550, an igniter box from a 750. You would have to swap advancers also, or at least the advancer cam lobe. I can't remember what bike my advancer lobe came from but it was from a small four cylinder.

On the Z1 website it lists a KZ650b and and a Kz650BA. How do I tell which one I need?

I wrote Z1 enterprises hoping that they could help figure out which model I need of the Dyna Electronic ignition. Can anyone give me a clue what to look for in the vin or anywhere else that would tell me what I need to know?

If you look through the two catalog pages for the two bikes it is the same part# for both systems.
Ride safe
78 650-C2, Stock engine, Jardine 4-2 Exh., 17-38 sprockets, dyna ignition and coils, coil wiring mod, carb mod.

Thanks for the info. I never did see any part numbers but I was looking late at night and usually am pretty tired.
