Jumpstarts and then dies was created by mbhudson
So I have an electrical question/problem. After a couple of days without riding my 650 it wouldn't start. I jump started it and while the jumper cables were connected to the 'donor' vehicle it started fine. However as soon as one of the cables was disconnected the bike immediately died. I tried disconnecting the battery, cleaning connections, but still no go. So is it the battery or alternator? Any help would be great!?

My money's on the battery, or at least that the battery is part of the problem. If you have a hydrometer, check your battery cells and see if they are all good (I'm betting at least one of them is not). If you don't have a hydrometer, take the battery to an auto parts store and have them check it for you.
Once you get a good battery in it, start it up and check the voltage at the battery to see how your charging system is doing. If it's not above 13 volts at idle and about 14.5 at 3500-4000 rpm then you've most likely got a charging system issue.

careful jumping off of a car, it will smoke the stator. Stators can be expensive.
My motorcycle shop had a load tester, took 2 minutes to check.

check the battery, it may be dead, you also need to check the charging system also, you may have a problem there also
