Just got the bike running and I went to time it.. On 1-4 the time is slighly to the right of the right timing mark but when I time it advanced the mark is right on.. If I time it corectly at idle then the advanced mark is slightly to the left.. I am getting some coughing through #1 carb.. How to I get the idle timing an the advanced timing the same? I have Dana electronic Ignition and coils. Headers and pods.. I lubed the advancer and it seems to be working correctly.. Anyone know how to make them both in time.. Oh, the #2-3 are doing the exact same thing..

The instructions said to time the engine statically at full advance. I have no idea why though. Your idle isn't so high that the advance is starting to kick in is it? And are you sure the advance is retunring all the way off advance or your advance springs may be weak or stretched which would let it advance early.

Make sure the tiny rubber stops are still glued onto the arms. If they fall off, the advance will move too much and you will get tyhe results you are talking about.

The idle is at 1100rpm and the rubber stops are still in place.. The advancer is very clean an lubed. I don't think it should be advancing at 1100rpm's.. Is that all that would cause this? Everything appears to be in very good shape.

Wait, I think I'm confused as to how you are timing it.

You are using a timing light?
Then time it such that at idle the F line is lined up with the pointer. When you rev the bike to 3000 RPM, the pointer should line up with the advance marks.

Well it is possible that the 1100rpm is kicking in the advance.. It is fluctualing a bit.. Here's another problem, i have a digital timimg light.. It say's my rpms are 3200rpms.. I put it on my car and it's fine. Earlier today on 1-4 I could see 2-3 flash intermittently.. I believe that somehow I the coils are fireing every time 1-4 goes and 2-3. I put the ligh on 2-3 and still 3200rpms.. The tach only reads 1100rpm.. My 1-4 coil is firing also when the 2-3 coils fire and vice versa. When the dana hits the 1-4 my 2-3 is firing too and when 2-3 fire the 1-4 coil fires.. Somehow I have both firing on each coil.. There are wires crossed somehow.. Does anyone have a schematic for the dana ignition? That could be my backfire problem for sure..:S i never put a digital light on it before so I wouldn't have known they were each firing like that. both coils are working as one. That would explain the flames shooting out of the pipe when it was running rich.. I need a dana schematic..:(
