voltage regulator

i think i just fried my second voltage regulator, anyone have any ideas on how to track this down and fix it? its on a 79 sr650

thanks, ill try this. but where should i start looking for the prob. last night my system is charging at 10 volts at 2500 rpm. i noticed the smoke come off the yellow wires coming from the generator to the regulator. could the seperate diodes be bad?

Did you check the voltage coming from the stator?

I'm not familiar with you charging system as my 77's are a little different.

if you mean by hooking up a voltmeter to the battery than yes.

No, I mean by unhooking the wires running from the stator and measuring voltage there, while running.
Do you have a wiring diagram?

in the clymers? manual i do. which one is the stator?
