First thing is, how bad do you NEED the little green light? Your transmission is set up with a default neutral-finder (when stopped, you can ONLY shift into neutral from first) so the neutral light doesn't help you find neutral. You just can't miss. So are you sure you want to take things apart just to change one light bulb?

If you find the bulb is good then you should remove the left side cover (over the chain sprocket). The neutral indicator switch is near the shifter and has a single wire connected to it. Make sure the wire and NIS are secure.
THERE'S ENGINE OIL ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THAT SWITCH SO DON'T REMOVE IT UNLESS YOU DRAIN THE OIL FIRST.
The NIS is basically a bolt with a ball bearing and spring. There is a raised notch on the shift plate (inside the engine) which when in the right position, touches the ball bearing, completes the circuit and powers the green light.
Mine had worn out over time. I looked all over the internet for a replacement to no avail. I ended up putting the NIS in a vice and hammering it from the back end (where the wire attaches)to push the ball out a little further.
It worked for me, but I probalby could have damaged the part and ended up with an oil leak.

My neutral light is in my pants pocket! Seriously

I went without a neutral light for years. I fished out the bulb and it was good so knew it had to be the neutral switch like Attila described. The dealer told me they were no longer available and then one day I spotted them on the Z1enterprises website and bought one. Cheap and easy to install. Now it seems so strange to have a neutral light !

That ring around the ignition lock is just too durned simple!
Welcome aboard, Dean.
P.S. Please try to avoid typing with the capslock on. On Internet forums it is considered the equivalent to shouting and is also proven that it is harder and slower to read all uppercase text.
