Regulator? Flux? was created by mind2find
Hello all,
My problem:
lots of white dust flux all over my swing arm and frame adjacent to it. without ripping the electronics out, it looks as if it's all coming from my Regulator(? - it's the box with the 1/4" gold strip running around it, right behind the fuse box).
Is this common?
Where could I find a replacement, other than a junk-yard?
if it's not clear what this is (regulator or otherwise) i can pull it out and take a pic.
bike runs fine though. electric is OK.
Thanks!

wow, i guess from the stunned silence, nobody knows what i'm talking about. maybe a picture will be of some help.
here it is from a weird angle: from the other side of the bike, through the empty battery case, to the back of the failing mystery component. look familiar to anyone?
is it possible that the wires next to it are shorting it and that's the source of the problem? well, at least if someone can tell me what that component is, i'll be able to work on it. i can't seem to locate it in the diagrams in the service manual.
thanks!

Brain overload. Does not compute. I'm an electrical moron. But I will give you a bump to get this back to the top.
Good luck.

Well here goes... could this be the oxidization byproducts of a an acid spill from the battery? If so, you should be able to scrap it off then neutralize it with a mild base. Soap is a mild base. It might work.
Best of success!

I can't say what your mystery component is but, the white dust (and rust) are likely caused by battery acid
