low rpm flub was created by Booncha57
im not sure if i am posting this in the right section since im not sure what is causing the problem. mostly after my bike is warmed up a little i notice that when starting out in first, i start let the clutch out and give it some gas but it wants to stall out. i really noticed it with my girlfriend on the back the other day. i think my points are worn and im replacing them today but im not sure if this would be the problem. does it sound like more of a carb thing? maybe a transition from idle to the next circut?

Im having a very similar issue at this point. Idles no problem, seems to be fine in the higher RPM range (4000-RED) but initially giving it a little throttle from idle makes the engine stumble and want to die. It usually does die unless i bring the throttle right up.
One person suggested to me that this could be caused by an air leak. Going to be checking my manifolds for leaks when I can.

This is common with the older models. The 79 and up carburetors have an accelerator pump to help cure the problem but that's not saying the they don't have to be adjusted correctly to begine with.
What happens is when you open the throttle there is a slight lag where the carbs lean out a little and causes this hesitation. This is cured by the accelerator pump adding a bit of gas to the air flow to enrichen it a bit. Any air leak will make the problem worse. Spray some carb cleaner on the around the boots and vacumm hose to the petcock to check for a leak. Mixture adjustment will affect it too as will the timing which is also related to the point setting.
God I'm glad I switched over to one carb.

my girlfriends cl350 does this too. both bikes have some "kinks" in the chains. i just bought new ones with sprockets, just havent put them on yet. its almost as though its a clutch issue, or that when i apply the power the chain almost seems like it has to tighten up or something to get moving.

its back...after i did my fuse box/headlight replacement i took the bike for a spin around the block and the hesitation at low rpm is back. it was running great. when i went to start it again, at first it didnt even try. then yesterday it did but it was hard. i readjusted the points and started the timing so we'll see what happens.

its fixed again. adjusted the timing and points again, and cleaned off the points. i probably should have tried cleaning them off first caues i think that may have been the problem. i may have put to much oil on that cam pad in there cause one of the points was a little dirty and they were brand new. well im about to go for a ride, so we'll see if it fires right up!
