Can you make your own regulator/rectifier? was created by kirmit77
i want to go the easiest and cheapest way on this engine, i have a 1977 kz100 engine and i am puttin it in a project and i need the regulator and rectifier, can you make one like from stuff from radio shack?

Rectifier, yes it's easy and cheap.

Regulator, yes, but the parts are not available at Radio Shack, and it would probably end up costing more than a good used one on Ebay.

Quite honestly, if you are not into it for the learning experience, you'd be better off buying a more modern combo unit. You can get them new from various suppliers (try Z1 enterprises), or even used ones from later KZ's.
Most of the 3-phase KZ 750 (4-cyl) models should work. The 3-phase (1981 or later) kz 550 models should also work. They used 3-phase, permanent magnet alternators. My custom designs are more of an academic exercise, at least the regulator is.
