wiring harness swap was created by oldkaws4ever
i finally gave up on trying to repair my "modified wiring harness", done by the previous owner. I was able to track down a wiring harness for a 78 kz 650c, my question is will this work on my bike, its a 77 kz 650b, im also reblacing the handle bar electrical switches. does anybody know if this is going to work or am i just wasting my time, or should i try to find a wiring harness from a 77 kz 650. thanks

The only thing I can think of that would differ between the two is that the 650 C came with 4 way flashers and I don't think the B models had them. Other than that it should be a pretty straightforward swap.

Hey oldkaws4ever - Nice user name by the way.

The gringo is correct, the only electrical difference between the B and C is the 4 way flashers found on the Custom.

My advice to you is to take lots of picture...lots, to make sure that you know how every wire feeds through the frame and exactly what goes where. One simple misplaced wire and you could be hunting down and electrical gremlin for a long long time.

The charging systems are totally different. There have been a few threads on this issue lately so a search may help.

The 77 650 uses a 3-phase, excited-field alternator, and seperate regulator and rectifier. The 78 650 uses a 1-phase, permanent-magnet alternator, and a combined reg/rec.

You will have to add several wires to the 78 harness.
