Could someone give me a conversion for the lights on my 78 KZ650? The only bulb i know for sure is the taillight, which is marked on the housing. A new headlight from Kawasaki is about $84.00 and i am sure there is a cross to a widely used type of bulb. Thanks in advance for the help. Dan

You can get a Halogen conversion kit on ebay for about $20. Maybe that is the way to go!?

I agree with letthegoodtimesroll, go with a Halogen light up front. JCWhitney has a good one, uses an H4 bulb, with 60w/55w High/Low bulb. If you choose a higher watt bulb the wiring may not handle it. Do a search for "motorcycle h4" on their main page, or just go here...

I replaced blinker bulbs with the 1156/1157 auto types. If you need dashboard and speedo/tach bulbs, they can also be found at the auto store, not sure what the number is on those, so bring one to match when you go. Those are all the same, I believe. At least on my 650.

In order to get a halogen bulb, do you have to buy a whole new kit. Or can you just throw in a new bulb? If you can't tell, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I want to upgrade my headlight, whats involved. Do i have to get a whole new bucket? Or just a light?

You have to look at your headlight, remove the chrome ring or whatever you have, and just take the glass headlight out. If you unplug the wires on the back and there is no bulb that can be removed, then buy the light at the link in my post above, I think it comes with an H4 bulb. Buy the right size, and you do not need a new bucket.

If you remove your headlight and wire and the bulb can be removed, it would seem that an "upgrade" may have been done from the old sealed beam headlight. In this case just buy an H4 60/55 watt bulb and plug it in. Do not buy the 100 or even 80 watt bulbs, too much heat and draw for this system.

do-not-touch the bulb with your fingers or then you wipe it clean with alcohol, the oils transfered from your skin make them pop.
