Hi
I have a 1983 KZ 550 Spectre.
When I switch on the indicators they sometimes work and sometimes don't. I notice that the dash light flickers with the indicator. The indicators are also extremely Dim.
Any pointers?

It sounds like you have low voltage to your blinkers. This can be caused by charging system or battery problems, but is more likely due to poor/corroded connections in your wiring system. Using a wiring diagram, start at the battery, check and clean all the connections (steel wool, alcohol, and a little contact grease), working your way to the flasher unit, then to the indicators, then back along the ground wires. Don't forget to disassemble the blinker switch and clean up the contact there, too. If all that does not solve the problem, replace the flasher unit (about $5 at any auto parts store -- take yours in and match it up). If you have a lot of miles on your bike, there is a possibility that you have a wire broken inside the harness, most likely at the steering head area (where the wire flexes when you turn the handlebars). I had this problem on my KZ750H when it had only 85,000 miles on it.
This is the type of problem that is common on an old bike, especially if they have been neglected, or been left in the weather. Fixing can be tedious, but it is not at all difficult.

Didn't bother looking at the electicals, just though I'd use the Bike for a week or so - they suddenly started working! Maybe use charged the battery a little (the bike had been stood for atleast 8 months or so)
No problems at all now other than the switch is a little sticky! Needs a lot of pressure to turn the right indicator on.
