I am in need of a starter switch and I am having trouble finding a source. Kawasaki no longer makes them. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks,

///bluemeanie! - Look at the format of the redone link that Loudvhx posted and use it the next time or just the auction number. Thanks! wg moderator///

Ebay is one option, particularly if you arent going to be riding all winter and have time to search for one. Whereabouts do you live? You could post a "Wanted" ad in the KZR classifieds here too.
What is wrong with the button? Some guys here have had good luck getting inside the handlebar controls and fixing a broken switch or wire. It doesn't cost anything to look....

jcodgill, Are you talking about the button up on the right hand switchgear or the starter solenoid located down near the battery box on your bike?

This is the right side handlebar kill switch and start button. I recently purchased the bike and the previous owner tried to fix the button. I was blowing a fuse each time I turn the ignition on. I disconnected the switch lead and the dash lights come on. There appears to be a short isolated in the switch. Maybe there is an electrical shop that can redo it. I can't find a switch anywhere. I looked on ebay and do not see one at this time. Will keep trying. In the mean time I am polishing and cleaning.

I see these on eBay all the time. They are most often listed as "handlebar controls", or something of that nature. I believe the right side switches are the same for all 1980-82 KZ650, 750, and 1000. Also, other years often will work. The ones in the listed year range should be a straight bolt on and plug in.

It is easy to disassemble the switch, then take it apart and clean and lube the contacts. Also, make sure you insulate any internal contacts from the handlebars (use tape, or liquid rubber).
