Okee doke..so I've checked the power to the coils, replaced wires, replaced plugs, checked the resistance to the points breaker (the connector with the 4 wires, right?) - 440 each, and checked the float levels.

The 1 & 4 cyclinders are firing, but the 2 & 3 aren't firing at all. I've checked the resistance at the boots, and its a beautiful 12 on the 1/4, 15 on 2/3.

Theres 11.6V at the primary side of the coils, 12.5V at the battery.

Does this go back to the carbs now? I think I need to take them off and clean them up again..

Opinions? Could this be a timing issue - advanced/retarded?

I'm glad I'm getting closer, but I'm still not riding, and that bums me out :pinch:

I just checked Kawasaki.com and it says you have electronic ignition (no points).
There is one wire going from the ignitor to each coil (two wires total), swap those wires around so that the wire going to the 1 &4 coil now goes to the 2 & 3 coil and vice versa. If 2 & 3 now has spark then the problem is probably the ignitor.

If you want to try and start it with the wires swapped, be sure and swap the spark plug wires around also :)

Timing is not adjustable with the electronic ignitions.

I don't think you have a points breaker and don't understand the resistance values you were quoting. I suggest that if 2&3 are not firing, you swap 2&3 coil for 1&4 coil to see if the problem moves or stays where it is. If it stays, then coils check out but you had best suspect one of these:

1. wiring/connectors from pickup coils to IC Igniter to coils
2. pickup coil for 2/3
3. IC Igniter

pickup coils..thats what it is I guess.. 4 wires from the right side of the engine, up to the right side cover where it joins with another set of 4 wires through a connector.

I think I'm at the point where I'll stick my volt meter anywhere, and just take a reading to see if something makes sense! :P

Swapping coils tonight. Okay on the timing..that makes sense to me.

Oh - what does the IC in IC igniter mean? Ignition Coil?

My guess is Integrated Circuit.

She's a roarin' now :)

I swapped coils, no change - the coils are great.

The pickup coils are great too..its awesomely clean in there.

The connectors are fine.

I ended up realising that the gas wasn't flowing on prime, so I figured there was an obstruction somewhere in the carbs - whenever we tried to fire 'er up, the gas would pulsate in the long clear tube I was using to connect the tank to the bike while testing.

I blew on the left vent tube, and all of a sudden gas started flowing out of wherever it was coming from - it was definitely flowing now.

As soon as the bike started, there was a ridiculous amount of smoke out the rear end..each time it started the bike started running smoother and smoother. Eventually it started without choke, and I'm ridiculously happy..idles at 1500 easy, so now I need to make a couple mods to get 'er down to 1000-1100.

Happy me! :woohoo:

I guess my next question is:

If the bike dies when I give it some gas from idle, that's a mixture problem, right? The choke is off when I try this.. The pilot screw is only out 1 turn, so I think I need to back it out another 1/2 to 3/4 turns to lean it up a bit.

Opinions?

PS: I have a Supertrapp 4-into-1 exhaust on there, so its not the stock system. Though all jets are stock.
