Mounting the carbs with pods

78 KZ 650 SR - carbs rebuilt by wiredgeorge many many years ago(still not fired up yet because I did two other bike builds since then, three actually)

I am trying to get the carbs to sit into the intakes. Is there a lube I can safely use that wont gum anything up? I can get them to seat when the intakes are off the bike, no issue, mounted intakes and the carbs wont go in that last i dont know, 1/2 inch maybe. What am I missing??? I have clamps on the intakes so loose they spin around, before anyone suggests that. I assume the clamps, once mounted are enough to hold the carbs and pods with the support of the airbox gone or do i need to fab a bracket to mount under the center valve cover bolt to the spot where the throttle cables go?
thanks i know this is probably a stupid question..

Any chance you have the boots mixed up? There are LH and RH boots.

they dont sell RH and LH boots any more and they both work in both spots so no. What it turns out to have been is odd. I had the clamps off and they just wouldnt sit when I was attempting to dry fit them. Once i mounted with the clamps on the intakes, just loosely snugged, they popped right in. so weird. But done!!! YEAH!

The inlet boots are definately handed. You can tell which are which by the vacuum take off.

yes but...one hand, I can't remember which one, is no longer available...so if you want new , you have to flip them upside down for one side. It barely works as vacuum sync becomes a chore to set up. But, in my opinion, it is most important to have fresh soft boots that seal properly.

If I'm correct Partzilla list them as 16065-046 and 16065-047 they come up on Evilbay. Appears still available.

the 046 was the left hand side and doesnt come up with anything on partzilla that looks correct, the 047 is the RH one that everyone sells. they are clearly marked L and R on the factory ones

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration

Found these, be interesting to see if they fit. They look right, but we all know how that goes.

All 650's are the same. 900 are bigger.
