Hey Fans!
Right now tested second carbs with correct needle and jet combination.
WOW !!
First test and 100mph easy possible. 110 main is little to rich. I need to wait for 105 and 107.5.
Even 17.5, pilot is also to rich. But I am sure that after changing that the bike will run like hell

Zed, Air correction with K&N is amazing!

Keep all updated!
Nice greetings

First glad to hear you have solved the issue, just a little more tuning and you will be where you want / need to be.

As to the K&N filters yes there is an oil to spray on them. Keep in mind that you do not need to soak them, a light coating will do and you should allow them to dry before you use them or you will be burning some of the oil from them.

Nice greetings

Great news..
Are the plungers i am re-seating going in those carbs ?
If so i would wait until they are fitted before anymore changes on the pilot.
The new seats can make a massive difference to reducing the over richness and you may not need to drop the pilot size and possibly not so far on the main.
I've just done a set on a 650 with similar issues and the result was impressive with an additional 10 mpg gain in on the deal too.

Dear all
I would like to give you a Feedback of the actual development.

1. Reworked Plungers from ZED are working amazing! First time that i am able to note how a real working choke System is working ;-)
2. After Installation, i have to correct Jet needle height from richest to middle Position.
3. I have installes 107.5 Main (and stick on 17.5 Pilots) - AGAIN i use K&N Pods and the air Regulation valve from ZED.

Yesterday i had first test ride with that Setup (only 25km).
Idle very nice but should be at 1.1k. Below is not nice.
Between 2.5 and 3.000 small Dropouts (in german we say swallow). This becomes better unitl i make with the air screw the fuel mixture more richer. Next try: Needle one Position richer.
After 3.000 she pulls very strong and nice to the red line. MAYBE i will try to go down to 105 Main. Yesterday VMAX: 147km/h - but no more possible because of new rebuildt engine and public road.

So i was able to run very nice and smooth.
Only i have to fix that 2.5 to 3k hesitation which occure when i give half or full throttle and on that low RPM.
Hopefully i can test today a little richer Jet needle height and 105 Main Jet.

EDIT + additional question:
How about best way to adjust WOT on the carbs (to avoid to much open slides)? I have adjusted this with the screw on the top of the carbs (close to the idle adjustment screw) to have the bottom of each slide (seen from air filter side) even with top of the carb body.
I was very surprised because i have to screw this stop screw more or less the complete way in to reach above mentioned Alignement with top of carb body.
I do not want to loose WOT power :o
Thanks for your advice!

Thanks again to all!
Cheers
Chris

My KZ650 runs extremely smoothly throughout the rpm range, but of course I use the stock airbox that Kawasaki / Mikuni engineers spent many hours designing. My bike has more than 62,000 miles on it and has always run smoothly. I wish you good luck getting your engine to run smoothly throughout the rpm range using pods. If you manage to do that be sure to post all the info on what you used so others can benefit from your experience. Ed

Dear Gents
Managed now very smooth operation.
Only fine tuning of main jets will follow.
Actual Setup:

K&N Open pods
Vacuum petcock
- Choke plungers overworked from ZED
- Air reduction from ZED
- Clear Tube 3mm
- 17.5 Pilot
- Airscrew 1.5 out
- Needle second richest
- Main 105 but still Testing

Engine complete new overworked with 700cc piston.

Now I need testing that Setup a lot of miles and alle engine to brake in. Then I can start adjusting mains.

Hope this will help somebody.
But: VM24 wir open pods is NOT impossible. But it will need parts from ZED!
