It's perfectly okay to simply remove and toss all the clean-air system components, because the engine performs just as well without the clean air system, and the clean air system components and hoses with their sundry additional connections provide additional possible sources for air leaks.

Ah I see. That would make things easier. What about the vacuum on the petcock?

If you have a vacuum operated petcock you need a vacuum line from it to a carb (normally carb #2). Otherwise you will need to always run it with the petcock in the "Prime" position. Another option is to replace the vacuum petcock with a manual one; then you wouldn't need to hook up the vacuum line. Ed

May attach the tube from petcock's vacuum nipple to any vacuum nipple on the carbs or to a vacuum nipple on one of the carb holders.
Be sure not to confuse a vent nipple with a vacuum nipple, as the carbs' vent nipples are supposed to exit to open air.
Each carb float bowl is vented, Usually, two float bowls are vented through a single vent nipple which vents both float bowls. Hence, all four float bowls are vented by just the two vent nipples.

Any unused vacuum nipple must be capped/plugged so as to prevent an unused open vacuum nipple from producing an undesirable air leak.

When working properly, the vacuum operated petcock will always allow fuel flow in PRIme position, but not allow fuel flow in ON or REServe positions unless receiving a vacuum (which vacuum is furnished via the carb on a running engine).
