pingle petcock conversion for 81 650csr was created by jbalet666
so my petcock took a dive the other day
im in the process of replacing it and thought maybe converting it to a pingle petcock might be benificial (ie. its more simple less problematic)
anybody do this or no that its possible with out any modification (besides the obvious difference in mouting it, i have a plan for that ;D)

I put a Pingle on my '78 KZ1000A2. Only issue was I got the single outlet and I need two. That's nothing that some fuel line and a Tee couldn't fix. I capped off the vacuum port and all is fine.

I just installed a Pingle on my 82 CSR about a month ago. It is working great and I have no more worries about the old vacuum petcock leaking.

I called Jim at Redline Cycles in Skokie and he set me up with the Pingle valve and an adapter plate for my bike.

The install went smoothly and was very simple. The only thing I had to do really was to cut/grind a small circular hole where the slot was for my original petcock. The original petcock had a flat shaped filter, whereas the Pingle has a circular shaped filter. I didn't really need to take off much to fit it in, so it was an easy job. The instructions for this come with the adapter. I just used a stone grinder on my rotozip to make the hole more circular.

I'm very happy with it and I highly recommend it if you are converting to a new valve. Give Jim a call, he'll set you up.

Z1E lists Pingel petcocks and adapters.

If in doubt about application and/or fitment, give'em a call.

Manual fuel valve. KZR topic - Manual fuel valve option
With the Pingel type you have to ream out the hole 2-4mm to accept the screen. sparks + fumes = boom.

Vacuum petcock. When a vacuum petcock fails, it's usually the diaphragm. The typical rebuild parts are listed as Active at Kawasaki.com, so you should be able to get them from the dealer. Or from Z1Enterprises.com. Z1Ent probably also has a K&L rebuild kit... either the complete kit or the diaphragm kit. I prefer the vacuum type.

Where are the carbs leaking? If the leak is coming from the overflow tubes you don't need to remove the carbs to address it. Ed

Its either coming from the float bowl gaskets or the fitting that attaches the fuel hose to the filter

What I think might have happened is that the The new system filled the bowls it wet the gaskets and now its leaking that or the float needle is stuck or overflow is pinched

So I felt around and its coming from the float bowls of 2 and 3 And the overflows are dry I can see it dripping from the bottom of the bowls but I can also see it running down the strut that runs along all of the assembly

I had a similar sounding problem - mine was an easy fix - tighten the float bowl bolts!

Hope you're as lucky - My Dad used to say, 'always check the simple things first!'

Don't overtighten the bowl screws, though. If the gaskets are old, you may need to replace them. Sometimes you can rejuvenate them w silicone spray - saturate them & let 'em sit a while to give them time to absorb the stuff.
