29 smoothies with a crazy leak!

I got a set of 29 smooth bore mik's. clean as can be. Problem is when I installed them, they pour gas out of the one and two carbs like niagra falls. Anyone know why this happend? Three and four was without leakage. Any body tell what this caused by and maybe tell what to do to get em fixed. Thanks to all and any help.

Sounds like float valves aren't closing. Since you say they're clean, the next thing I'd consider, is that sometimes old floats can get cracks, and fill up with gas, thus not floating. I'm not sure what they floats are made of on those carbs, but it would be a decent thing to check. Might also check how they're adjusted to make sure they can float all the way to where the float valves seals, and aren't bent or something funny to where they can't go up.

were they worked on? do you know the history of the carbs?

Right on. I checked the floats and found them to be in good condition. They are made out of maybe some type of copper or brass. And they are sweated together with some kinda a solder. Not sure what. But I held them in a bowl of gasoline and looked for air bubble and turned up no leaks. All are identical on all four floats as far as tabs being in the same position. As far as being worked on, I haven't the slightest clue. Needle valves are smooth around the point. Seats look ok as well. Fuel comes right out the intake side of the carbs as soon as I turn the petcock on. Hmmm, am I over lookin another possibility? Carbs look really clean inside and out. Gaskets look new and mains and pilot jets look brand new so I don't know if that's all that had been done to them before or if they have been rebuilt before. I bought em from a flea market for 25$. Got em for a steal regardless but would like to run them on my 1000ltd. Thanks.

Make a rack and a temp fuel tank with a way to shut off fuel.. Drop the bowls and hold the floats up. I have had 2 floats go bad on mine,thing is they looked good. Polished them but it didnt help.

Right! I bout came outta my skin when ol boy told me twenty five duckies! I had 200 thinkin I could get em for a steal at that price! But yeah, I have a feelin they are gonna mess with me mentally for a little while trying to get em figured out. Hopefully not too much. Ill crackem open again to see what my floats do with out the bowls and a bleeder tank of fuel flowin thru the needles. Thanks

I paid $140.00 for my 29's then spent another $200.00 or so
on needle's, seat's, gasket's and a big hand full of jet's.

There's no kit's for the VM29's you have to get stuff piece by piece X4.
Call Robert at Z1 he hooked me up with all my need's.

Yeah I didn't think I was gonna get off that easy with payin what I did. Robert is a kool kat. We've talk carb junk a handful of times. I've prolly got some needles in my junk box. Just gonna have to dig around.

look, this is not a cookie cutter issue....you need to go though these carbs with a fine tooth comb. There are several different things that could be wrong with each carb....just my view on it.
