29s need some care was created by kzz1king
I have not determined if electrical or carbs. 1075 with 29s. It does not want to idle and seems to need a little choke. Have always been able to turn the enricher off immediately after starting before. Tank was off and painted so possible contamination but doubt it,has inline filter. Carbs did sit dry this past winter so maybe some dried crud?

What is the least intrusive way to clean these up? They do not have alot of miles on a well done rebuild and have been flawless till now. I dont want to remove anything that doesnt need to come off. Wayne

wow, thats having the cake and eaten it too. If you sonic them...you need to blow them out, hard to do together....you really need to strip them....but I would guess sonic would be the way to go....but there are plenty of people on here smarter than me that need to ring in.

what do the plugs look like?

Does it run good anywhere on the throttle?

It starts great, revs nice. But after I ride for a short time it starts to break up. Seems like it might be running out of fuel. Does not want to idle below 2000 either.

thats funny, I was riding tonight and out of no-where bike stated to run bad and break up....went to res and it came back....you might be right, fuel problem, lack of fuel. worth looking into I think.

When it starts to act up crack the fuel filler cap and see if it starts to run better. Could be a blocked vent which is a common problem with similar symptoms.

Do yourself a favor and check all the cheap and easy stuff before you get into your carbs. Maybe some sanding dust got in your tank when it was being prepped for paint. That would clog a filter fast. Not easy to get out either. Just a couple of ideas to try.

If you get into the carbs, you can clean them out without dismantling the whole assembly. Just remove the bowls, main and pilot jets, make sure they arent clogged, then blow air or brake clean through all the passages, the little brass tubes too.

Would assure fuel level is within specs (via clear tube test).

Clean pilot circuits

Assure air jet is clean and clear

Assure choke plungers are fully closing when choke is OFF.

Check for air leaks, especially at vac plugs and carb holders, and that clamps are snug.

Good Fortune! :)

I've had freshly painted tanks do the same thing, it does occasional get thru the filter and get into the idle circuit jets. You may get away with just dropping bowls and cleaning the jets.

Paint over-spray inside the tank can collect on the petcock tube screens and cause intermittent fuel starvation, especially at lower fuel levels. Might also clog the petcock's internal filter.

Can remove and flush the fuel tank with fresh gasoline (or alcohol, or acetone, or mineral spirits, or whatever). Slosh the liquid around inside the tank and fast-dump it out the open cap.

I pulled a bowl plug and have good flow. What I should do is see how long it will flow. That should help determine if plugged vent? Leaning towards vent because I did put a new seal on cap. Old seal did not work well enough to need a vent.

PS Thanks all for the ideas.

If you dont mind me chiming in, I would remove all four float bowl screws and the air filters. Remove the air screws or pilot screws which ever your carbs have. If there 29 mm smoothbores they have air screws. Use brake clean with the little red straw that comes with it and spray in every opening on the inlet side of the carbs liberally. Then spray into the orfice your air screws came out of. This should dissolve any varnish in the pilot system or slow speed system of the carbs. Put it all back together and see what you have. Might save you the trouble of removing the carbs. It has worked for me in the past. Next time use stabil in the fuel and make sure it gets into the carbs. You wont have to go through this ever again. Hope this helps.

Am addicted to Z1's and kz 900's have an el camino, fly rc helicoptors and am strung out on horsepower.

Thanks. I have used Stabil every year for a long time, longer than I have had the carbs. I do not remember why I drained the bowls and stored with the drain plugs off. Won't happen again. ;)
