What is the least intrusive way to clean these up? They do not have alot of miles on a well done rebuild and have been flawless till now. I dont want to remove anything that doesnt need to come off. Wayne

Do yourself a favor and check all the cheap and easy stuff before you get into your carbs. Maybe some sanding dust got in your tank when it was being prepped for paint. That would clog a filter fast. Not easy to get out either. Just a couple of ideas to try.

Clean pilot circuits
Assure air jet is clean and clear
Assure choke plungers are fully closing when choke is OFF.
Check for air leaks, especially at vac plugs and carb holders, and that clamps are snug.

Can remove and flush the fuel tank with fresh gasoline (or alcohol, or acetone, or mineral spirits, or whatever). Slosh the liquid around inside the tank and fast-dump it out the open cap.

I pulled a bowl plug and have good flow. What I should do is see how long it will flow. That should help determine if plugged vent? Leaning towards vent because I did put a new seal on cap. Old seal did not work well enough to need a vent.

PS Thanks all for the ideas.

kawasaki mike wrote: If you dont mind me chiming in, I would remove all four float bowl screws and the air filters. Remove the air screws or pilot screws which ever your carbs have. If there 29 mm smoothbores they have air screws. Use brake clean with the little red straw that comes with it and spray in every opening on the inlet side of the carbs liberally. Then spray into the orfice your air screws came out of. This should dissolve any varnish in the pilot system or slow speed system of the carbs. Put it all back together and see what you have. Might save you the trouble of removing the carbs. It has worked for me in the past. Next time use stabil in the fuel and make sure it gets into the carbs. You wont have to go through this ever again. Hope this helps.
Thanks. I have used Stabil every year for a long time, longer than I have had the carbs. I do not remember why I drained the bowls and stored with the drain plugs off. Won't happen again.
