I have no plugs nor o rings placed under my pilot jets. I was looking to buy them. I was going to replace my mixture screw o rings also. I hope putting the plugs in will alow me to move my mixture screws to a normal settings of 1 to 2 turns instead of 4 to 5.

cycleorings.com has complete o -ring kits for those carbs for around $15 but you still need the plugs

Rob at Z1E suggested the rubber plugs as other brands use them instead of the aluminium plugs.

Good info! :cheer:
Guessing the rubber plug would also eliminate need for the o'ring.

Perhaps the rubber substitute is one of these type plugs?

Have wondered about, but never tried, pressing a small fishing line lead weight into the area.

Good Fortune! :)

The rubber plug is fine to use. They are 4.50 a pair at this link. www.mikesxs.net/product/48-5002.html They are better than the aluminum ones with the O ring.

Your mains are way to rich. My setup is below for my 83 1100 Spectre, and am still fine tuning it but am very close.

K&N RU-0984 pods
pilot 42.5 (too rich dropping to 40)
Mains 137.5 (close, possibly a touch on rich side)
Needles 5IX11 (5 notch adjustable)available here www.mikesxs.net/product/48-0663.html
83 KZ1100 Spectre, St. Louis elevation 500 ft.
K&N RU-0984 (pods)
4 into 1 Header
Pilots 40 1.5 turns out
Mains 135 (cylinders 2 and 3)
Mains 132.5 (cylinders 1 and 4)
Needles 5ix11 set on clip 2

Thanks, grant_stl! :cheer:

The Yamaha plugs at Mikes appear to be the same as these at Z1E :

An 83 GS1100 Katana I bought had the tips of rubber gloves stuffed in the holes. I do not advise this method

I know I spent a hell of alot of time re-jetting my bike last year. I wanted to learn how to work on carbs. I spent time drilling out and using .5 mm washers on the needle jets to shim the needle, my csr only has 1 clip position. I also removed the plugs your talking about because some people said they didn't matter. I could not get her right and contemplated ghost riding it off a cliff, it was pissing me off. I decided f it and tore the carbs apart once again and put those plugs back in and It's been running right ever since. I say find those plugs put them in and try your set up before you adjust anything else. It could be as simple as putting them back in. I also found its better to change only 1 variable at a time, meaning dont put the plugs in adjust the needle shim, change main and pilot jet all in one adjustment. If you adjust one thing and it gets better you headed in the right direction, if you adjust 3 things and its worse, how do you know what is good and what is bad. It will take more time but in the long run you may actually save time and money and not ghost ride your bike off a cliff. Good Luck!

I agree with one thing at a time I will be ordering those rubber plugs and trying it out. If I run into a rich problem due to the 160 main then I will order some smaller ones.
