What you you guys recommend for sealing the rubber carb holders to the engine ?

Last year I replaced the original carb holders and used a green Permatex 2 but it seemed to dry up. I had the carb holders off today and used Permatex grey when putting them back on. On the Permatex website under automotive it was recommended for manifold intake seals but no mention under motorcycle applications.

ThreeBond 1104, or 1194 as it's called now (basically the same stuff as Yamabond, Hondabond etc).

Thanks guys. I'll try to get some during the week. Hoping the permatex grey will hold up until next Saturday

Ive used permatex Motoseal (gray tube), as it lists explicitly for sealing larger gaps on that parts that move or are frequently dissasembled, and it is resistant to gasoline.

Might want to check if the 1194 is actually gas resistant - probly is, and its a good product too.

I put mine on dry. No leaks. Maybe if you're re-using old ones a little goo on there might help, but be sure to wipe any excess from the inside as you wouldn't want any getting sucked into the cylinder. Ed

Thx. I'll keep fingers crossed that the grey will hold up.
The Threebond website says gas oil and water resistant. I think it might be a good product to have handy in my toolbox

650ed, the old ones I replaced 18 months ago were on dry and sealed well at the engine surface but had cracks. The new ones leaked when put on dry.

I've always put mine on dry also. Never had a problem in all my years. I did use some yamabond on the manifolds for the turbo just in case but not sure it was really needed.

The yet unsolved problem for me is finding a sealant that's both heat proof and gasoline proof.

Was unable to locate a Permatex product sealant represented as being both heat proof and gasoline proof.

Absent both qualities, would expect the seal to deteriorate sooner or later.

Imo, the carb holders should be installed "dry" and without any sealant.

Good Fortune! :)

Dry always worked for me, but if you must, Yamabond #4 works fine. For sure don't use RTV anywhere. It sucks majorly. Sorry, but no kind words for that sealer are in my mind.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
