Is there some vacuum line on the BS34's that keep them from overflowing? I have been helping some guys get an '81 kz1000 ready for Bonniville and we have had a hell of a time getting the carbs to stop leaking. The float heights were set and they are still leaking like crazy. all the vacuum lines were removed and I was wondering if that had anything to do with it. as usual, and help is greatly appreciated.

I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, MINE IS LEAKING BACK THROUGH THE #1 CARB. I AM INEXPERIENCED IN THE MOTORCYCLE FIELD AND HAVE EVER MESSED WITH CARBS. I WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE NEEDLE AND FLOAT, LIKE THE KITS FOUND ON EBAY FOR 9$, DO I JUST DROP THE BOWL OUT OF THE BOTOM, REMOVE THE SCREW SECURING THE BRACKET HOLDING THE NEEDLE IN PLACE, DROP THE ASSEMBLY OUT AND REPLACE IT? IS IT THAT SIMPLE? MY ISSUE IS IT LEAKING OUT THAT CARB THROUGH THE AIR BOX HOSE, ONTO THE SIDE COVER, AND FILLING MY AIR BOX.
THANKS IN ADVANCE

I don't think you can correctly set the float heights with the clear tube method if the float valves are leaking and allowing fuel to fill the carb bowls to the overflow level. So, if you were able to set the float height using the clear tube method the fuel must be leaking below the overflow level. If that is the case, I would check the overflow tube inside the carb bowl to see if it's cracked. You can remove the carb bowl and fill it with fuel up to just below the overflow level and see if it leaks through the overflow tube.

If you set the float heights using anything other than the clear tube method I would suspect they are set too high. Ed

Check the overflow tubes for cracks - if they are then the carb will leak fuel via the overflow no matter what float level you set.
