78 kz400 b1 fuel and vacuum lines ???
17 Apr 2011 22:41
Can someone pleaassssssseeeeeee post a picture of where the fuel and vacuum lines go on a kz400 b1 carburetors and petcock!! I have looked for days and cant find these pictures anywhere. I even have the service manual...and it's no where in there. Im thinking this is why my bike wont start, because i have the vacuum lines connected wrong. Story is, i did the whole 2 to 1 conversion and got the bike running strong.... a little too strong. I bought a 37mm keihin instead of a 35mm and didnt want to fool with the 2-1 thing anymore. I put my dual carbs back on and now it wont start. i think its because it's flooded. I keep it on prime. Please help!!!!!
Thanks in advance!!

Pic for reference (see below).
My best guess until better advice comes along is #36 (blue) vent line, #31 (yellow) fuel line, and #19 (green) vacuum to petcock.

Yes! Thanks so much. Now heres where im confused. If you look at line 17/18 i know where that spout is on the carburetor but where does the other end plug into??? also what is the difference between the on and prime position on the petcock?

sorry i meant 19:pinch: also i looked into a bunch of those threads. and i just want to ask why do four stroke carburetors have to be so complex? i mean each carburetor has four jets....if not more....wtf! so if this whole fuel/ vacuum line thing doesnt work what would you try next? I already made sure the jets were clear. i cleaned the bowls, but have not made sure the floats float nor have i cleaned the needle valves.  Maybe? anyway...god im thinking maybe trading my 37mm carb for a 35mm carb, rejetting it yet again, and rewiring my throttle side switches to aftermarket switches may be worth it after all...... opinions please?

I just got my carbs back together. I have a kz400 and mine might be different from yours. But on mine there are two hoses that you need to worry about. The big one is the main fuel line and it goes to the splitter between the carbs. The smaller one is the vacume line and it runs from a intake at the top of one of the carbs to the smaller tap on the back of the petcock. I found out the hard way that if you run it to anywhere on the bottom it runs like crap. It reached down to the bottom and it fit to an outlet valve but definetly was not supposed to go there.
