I did check the level and gas was flowing out. I just took the carbs off and was looking noticed that when i blew on the oval shape opening the slide and needle would go up on #2 and #3.

#4 would go up very slowly and not all the way.
#1 LOL didn't go up at all!!

I know we had checked this when we put the carbs together but there was a chance it did get messed up. Odd that it would run that well as I just found it. I know #1 was backfiring ugh..

Cleaned the bowls and jets and checked passages.

Gonna try to put this back together either tonight or tomorrow..

Oh fyi did a compression test also and all are 125psi and tried to do a leakdown test on all 4 and they seemed to leak the same speed.

Thanks guys for the help! Hopefully I will get this going soon as its starting to get nice out.

Here is the picture of the carbs
oval part is circled in red.

so with the diaphrams not being sealed this would cause low vacuum huh? lol

I hope this fixes it.

Have you tried swapping plugs and/or wires to determine if the problem is electrical or fuel related?

swapped coils.. no change.
can not swap the plug wires none of them long enough to reach #4.

I checked spark again tonight and the spark is same on 1 and 4. NICE AND BLUE.

Anyone have any idea's?

I am thinking of pulling the carbs again and dipping #4 and maybe the others.

Ok so I started the bike today just to check the vacuum.

hrmm still low on the manometer.

carb 1 popping

#4 exhaust is cold.

Pulled carbs today..finally..

Started looking and found the pilot jet plugged on #4
That would be the cause for #4 not to run at idle.

Cleaned all the passages.. took everything out but didnt seperate carbs. Found some gook under the float needle seat/screens. So I will be adding a fuel filter before this goes back together.

Found #1 float seat rubber gasket is flattened so much I dont think it would seal.

The plugs over the pilot jets well they look pretty worn.

Gonna check out getting those parts or should i get a carb kit.. Not sure if those parts will be in it...

thanks.. Yes I will check the valves next and recheck timing before mounting those carbs!!

thanks guys,,

B) Ok got the new orings for the float valves.. 2 from dealer 2 from westlake .55 cents each at westlake.

Got the pilot jets and everything all cleaned up.

Removed the intake boots and sealed them to the motor real good.

fired the bike up and WOW wow WOW it sounds totally different.

Went on to turn the idle wayyyyy down and synched the carbs. Bike is responding to a blip on the throttle and idles smoothly now.

Yes I did put a fuel filter in.. Getting tight on space under there.

Drove the bike around and awesome.. Its really running!! I didn't touch the mixture screws from the 1.5 turns I had set them on the bench. Guess this could be fine tuned later. But heck I just want it to not rain so I can drive this baby.

I did get a M2R flip up helmet. Very nice for $99 I know its not the fanciest but oh well.

Thanks guys for all the previous posts on this site. Reading it up was the best help. :woohoo: B)

Now I just need to clean this bike up some more.

UPDATE:

Been riding the bike ever since the last repair!!

Getting aprox 41mpg Drive it 3 out of the 5 days to work.

Love it.. I did find a small leak on the valve cover but thats an easy fix.. just need to squirt some sealer in there where those cam caps are.

This bike starts first button push every time. Gotta love the $500 bike !!!B) B) B)

I have the same problem on my bike and I am looking through my manual for the idle mix screw you are talking about and i guess it has a diffr=erent name in my book. Will you give me a location of this screw. I just joined this site and i need help. have that same leak in the front of my bike and as you said it was your head gaskets so it looks like my prob too. Give me an answer back on that idle mix screw or as itis called in my book "air screw"

Air screw and pilot screw are the same thing on this bike. The air screw is on top the venturi on the engine side. It will be under an aluminum cap if the carb has never been disassembled.

First to wiredgeorge I have mikuni not sure of the size and my bike is a 78 kz650sr with a accellerator pump and I will have too look for that air screw again cause i thought i found it. Good thing i didnt touch anything as yet. For wire i already checked the return of the throttle cable and its fine, I made sure it rolled back good while i was working on it. I go to automotive school but they never thought us about carburetors so i dont no anything on them. O I dont no where that signature thing is but i will look!!
