Z1 900 26mm carb jetting was created by oldkaws4ever
When i put the motor back together on my z1 i am going to run my 26mm carbs on it. I have the sidewinder vance and hines pipe with a chopped kerker baffle, and stock air box, Dyna-s ignition and Dyna coils. What should my jetting and needle clip position be at? Thanks, Jim.

77 Kz 650b (Threw a rod, going to sandwich in a 900 or 1000 motor)

I'd start with 17.5 pilots,3rd slot on clip, and 112.5 mains. air screws out 1 1/4 turns. Be sure to synchronize
them.

going to run my 26mm carbs --- which 26mm carbs?

Such as oem 26mm on KZ900 with side located pilot air screw, or some leaner oem 26mm carbs from a later model?

For example, oem KZ900 26mm Mikuni carbs are very user-friendly, and are performing well on my KZ900 LTD (1015) with Kerker (street baffle) and K&N filter in stock airbox.

With oem 26mm KZ900 carbs, would suggest test running and plug chop reading before arbitrarily up-sizing jets.

Incident to carb tuning, would also first assure correct float bowl fuel levels, using clear tube test method.

Once upon a time, a guy who lives in Chicago put up a post pleading for left side transmission housing and shifter rod for his kz650. Seems his chain went slack and grenaded things. He thought someone may have loosened his chain adjusters ( I can beleive it). I had a 77 kz650 I was dismantling, so I offered to give him the parts for the cost of shipping. We agreed I would ship, tell him the cost, and he would send the$. I shipped and waited. And waited. He said the $ was in the mail and could I send him the chain adjusters as well? I was about to go and mail them when I read his new post that he was going on vacation on his kz650 to Arizona. So I wait. And wait some more. He doesn't answer my PM's or e-mails so I decide not to help this guy out any more.

It's really not a big deal. Only $20. But a deal's a deal. And he flat out lied to me. Now I'm nice guy, and I say what I mean and mean what I say. Lot's of guys on this site think this guy is great. Sure he has a nice bike, but I think he's a thief.

Any body else need 77 kz650 Parts? I still have the rest of the engine (it's really good), tank (OK), complete wire harness, complete brakes, and some other stuff. All for the cost of shipping.

This time I'll wait until I have the $ before I ship.

I sent you the money and i you say you never got it, i highly doubt that. I shouldn't have sent cash, i will send you a check or money order for what i owe you. As far as e-mail's go i never recived any from you and i only recived 1 pm from you.

The carbs are off of a kz 1000 and they were rebuilt by wiredgeorge.

i hear ya....its not the cash , but the principal of the thing.....i got screwed once on here and once on ebay for 500.....the 5 bills on ebay cost me another 30 or so for the guys info online that i used to my advantage...he paid....he was a newbie on there and paypal would nt cover everything......lesson here kids...if ya try to screw anyone, dont give up your cell # during negotiations.....the one time on here was for some shims....no biggee.....although i would feel better if i got at least got one punch in his pee-pee puffer.....dude was a loser.....

The carbs are off of a kz 1000 and they were rebuilt by wiredgeorge.


1977 and 1978 KZ1000 oem carbs were 26mm manual slide Mikuni with bottom located pilot mixture screws, 107.5R main jets and 17.5 pilot jets.
Considering the EPA regs, I suspect the oem carbs were on the lean side.
If oem jets are fitted, to begin with might try 2 size larger mains, and same or 1 size larger pilots.
Would leave jet needle clip in same middle position.
And each pilot screw 1 1/4 turns out from lightly seated.

Just guessing here as throttle chop spark plug readings are best evidence of main jet performance.

Carb syncing and fine tuning pilot circuit for best low steady idle with strong pull-away and smooth low speed cruising are desired results from the pilot jets.

I wouldn't mess with the syncs, as wg's throttle slide settings should already be perfect.

Wondering if wg installed oem size jets, or maybe installed larger mains and maybe a larger pilot??

needle clip moved down one notch.
