The problem with the 1977 petcock is that it sucks! Seriously though, i've broken the tabs on two handles and messed up the iside valve piece on mine, either because the inner piece sticks, or because of the single set screw holding in the handle.

I'm actually gonna machine a new handle and put in two set screws. If this fixes the problem, so be ti, btu if not I'll be gettin the drag specialties one with the pngle adapter.

The 77 manual petcock is a complete and utter piece of crap, so don't use that setup.

Whats wrong with our (77) petcock setup vs newer ones?

The main problems are:
A. They will always freeze up unless you disassemble them frequently to lube.
B. If you elect not to do "A", the lever will break off in your hand.
C. They will always have a sloppy fit at the lever due to wear from constantly opening and closing the valve, and always leak due to this wear even with a new oring.
D. Impossible to clean the internal filter because the bowl gasket oring will always be hard as a rock, impossible to remove to get to the filter and always leak around the bowl.
Of course my "always" is just my own experience. Over the years I've bought about 5 of these new and had about 10 used ones. Sometimes I'd make one good one out of two, when one started leaking another broke a lever ect. Eventually I abandoned all 15 of them. One thing for sure, never buy one of these used or you're just throwing money away because it will leak, gauranteeeed!

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

those 2 parts won't fit together. you can use that drag specialties valve, but you'll need to find out the spacing (center to center) of your petcock mounting bolts www.pingelonline.com/adapter_plates.htm

it will be one of the following. as said before, call Z1 if you have no shops around you

A1602C 3/8" NPT 1.338 or 34mm
A1702C 3/8" NPT 1.732 or 44mm
A1802C 3/8" NPT 1.811 or 46mm
A1902C 3/8" NPT 1.968 or 50mm
A1902C-B 3/8" NPT No mounting holes (Designed to drill your own mounting holes.)

and I would use a petcock that routed the gas to the right of the bike or to the rear. that petcock you chose routes the gas down and I'm not sure that would work. try www.dragspecialties.com/fatbook/1732/210/2352672 DS-390217 3/8” NPT with 90° x 5/16” rib spigot $14.95
that is waht I have on my 750 and it fits fine.

You mileage may vary.
