Are they sending the same petcock, if so, did they change the type of material the failed part is made of? I have the same problem with one that I got last summer.

All I need is the seal not the whole petcock. I think they got the material thing figured out before I purchased mine. It may very well be a burr on mine, or mine got missed and did not recieve the updated seal.

I had obtained one of those $30 petcocks as well... POS wouldn't shut off completely from the first moment I tried it... Tiny as constant drip...

And no, I didn't raise hell with Z1 for I figured my bad, for what did I truly expect for $30.... Had nothing to do with Z1 or Jeff.

Here in Az we have Ethanol as well and this gasket didn't get eaten up in the first few minutes of operations...

So bit the bullet, bought a Pingel for which I should have done in the first place... ;)

As in all performance/modifications... Go cheap, take a chance... Sometimes you just have to bite the bone and pay the $$$ for the top quality parts... So either OEM or quality performance parts, one or the other...

Sorry brother... We've all been there...

Here in Oregon our local pretender to the title of Governator has mandated alcoholic gasoline for all vehicles, at least he did until we bitched a fit, whereupon he backed down a bit and allowed folks to purchase non-alcoholic if it was at least 92 octane. Can you say rich folks only?

Alcohol comes from corn squeezins and is totally wasted on infernal combustion engines.

This is not Z1E's fault, I called Jeff to get a new seal because it was not on the website. I did not call to bitch.
It took me 20 years to do the dyna thing and as you said I should have done it long long ago. If I have to get the pingle I will but I was trying to get out cheap. Hell I rebuilt the factory one so many times that the bore is wallered and will not seal.
Hopefully this works if not I will go pingle and be done. I ride three bikes and expensive items multiply by 3 trying to keep these old girls roadworthy, There is always something to do between them all.

I also use that same petcock, and that diaphragm in the picture went bad,and it leaked. I called Z1 and they sent me a new diaphragm for free. Hats off to Jeff and Rob.
I don't know if it was the gas/ethanol, or burrs, that caused it to go bad, but it does not leak now. I replaced it 2 years ago, 5 years total on the petcock. I try to use 100% gas now.

Ron, how often if ever do you have to rebuild yours?

On my original KZ650 with 168,000 miles I had quite a few problems with the petcock early on where the diaphram would stick open like the petcock was on "prime". I didn't even know rebuild parts were available so I just would replace the entire petcock. I did this maybe 3 times in 100,000 miles and not a problem since then. On the KZ1000 with 80,000 miles I've never touched the petcock, it's never even been off the tank to clean the screen. ....(etc etc etc)
Thanks!
