Hi Does anyone know of anywhere that I can buy Airbox boots for my KZ650 CSR H1.
The part numbers are 14073-1052 LH & 14073-1053 RH.
Seems to be a part that is unique to this bike, I may me able to re-use my existing ones but they are pretty stiff but not cracked. Don't really want to go for pods.
Thanks

Hi 79MK11
Thanks for the Bike Bandit info.
I just called them from here in the UK. They maybe have the parts and will ship to the UK, total cost including shipping 133.52 dollars.
I have ordered them but they will let me know on Monday whether they are in stock or they can source them from somewhere.

I understand while they are called Bike Bandit cos they just robbed me blind!!!

I'd take them babies off every two months and silicone them. I'd even take them out for a nice dinner. :pinch:

Yea, the dollars (pounds) add up quickly when you're dealing with OEM. I didn't realize you were in the UK - at least you get a break on the exchange rate to help ease the blow. But then shipping isn't cheap either. Let us know how it works out.

Unfortunately, these parts are not available through Kawasaki. I don't know why Bike Bandit would take your order when they cannot get them. They have immediate access to parts availability and should have told you there and then they are discontinued.

If you are shopping for genuine Kawasaki parts, look at the parts diagrams on Kawasaki.com (under owner info). These diagrams tell you whether the parts are still available or not within the USA.

Each country may have different stock, so you can't tell if you might find the parts in a different country looking at the USA www.kawasaki.com web site.

I have had Bike Bandit accept an order for OEM parts and then later send an email stating that the parts are unavailable. It would be nice to know when you place the order if they can get it or not.

Thanks guys.
I will let you know when Bike Bandit inform me that they can't get the boots.

Meanwhile is there anything that I can do to soften up the old ones without ruining them?

My experience with BikeBandit is that they will accept money for any Kawasaki part that shows a number. I suspect it is company policy to get your money as quickly as possible and worry about the small stuff (e.g. availability) later. As has been pointed out before by Jeff, we all need to learn how to use the Kawasaki site because it will tell you what is stocked, low-in-stock, or out-of-stock (not to mention substitutions). If the part shows out-of-stock for Kawasaki USA, no one can order it from them, not even BikeBandit.

In the USA, there is a product called 303 rubber protectant.

www.303products.com/shop303/index.cfm/ca...space-protectant.cfm

I use this stuff on all old rubber parts. As soon as they are removed from the bike, I spray them and put them in a sealed plastic bag. While it cannot repair rubber, it does help soften it slightly, and it protects it against UV rays.

This company offers free samples - so it's a great thing to try.

There's a few places in the UK stocking this stuff:

Hi Jeff

Thanks very much for the link, the product looks interesting and I will give it a try.

Contacted a distributor in Northumberland and will get a special price trial spray and see how it goes.

This might seem a bit off the wall and I haven't tried it as yet but it sounds like it might possibly work. I have a member at the country club where I work and he was at one time a pro bowler and a former US olympic team coach. He was telling me that at one time bowlers would soak their bowling balls in MEK to soften them up and make them grab the lanes better, they used to call these balls soakers. Seems that one of the pro bowlers had a brother that was a chemist and he came up with this. Anyway this got me to thinking that this might work on old hard airbox boots. I haven't had time yet to try it but it might be worth a try at some point. Just an idea I thought I'd throw out there.
