Not all carbs have the vacuum nipple. If it's got it, you cant mistake it because it runs a straight shot right into one of the carb intakes. Visual look with the carbs off takes 2 seconds. If you don't have it, you can run your vacuum petcock off one of the 4 rubber capped plugs on your intake manifold rubbers normally used for syncing the carbs.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

It was a bitter contrition, a toxic waylay cast at me by my kz1000 carbs, who, owing to sage advice from noteworthy contributors such as yourself, were compelled unwittingly to surrender up the secret of the vacuum line nipple location. The bitter taste was a futile attempt on my carb's behalf to seek revenge upon me for stealing the secret of the vacuum line connection. The acidic taste of the Berrymans, particularly at such a late hour, was taken as evidence by me as to the deep, deep feelings of loss suffered by my carbs, who were quite angry that a simple-minded fool such as m'self might steal their tightly-held secret of the vacuum line nipple's identity.

My 78 Kz1000 vacuum came of #3 carb intake. Hummmmm
You should have 26mms which are different than the 24 mm and the 28mm pictured. So yes you will have to use a carb intake to run your vacuum hose. Mine is #3 but I guess that doesn't matter which one..

you could use any vacuam port as long as the carb one was plugged off.

Thanks Chance and thanks to everyone, if you take a moment to read the above posts you'll see that with timebomb33's help and a little late-nite-godlike inspiration I found out that INDEED the 3rd carb's upward-and-rear-angled nipple *is* in fact the vacuum line. These are stock '78 kz1000 carbs I have, and that's where the fuel petcock's vacuum connection is hooked up to on this bike -- that nipple on the 3rd carb.

Thanks to all!

So I just picked up a 78 kz 1000 that has the vacuum nipple on petcock as opposed to my 77 kz1000 that didn't so I dug up this old thread. Just curious what effect would it have if that vacuum line wasn't hooked up. Thx

if you unhook the vacum line ..first your petcock will not open and close as designed. You will have to run it on prime and second youll need to plug the line. The bike wont run right with it open and it could even cause engine damage if you run it much
