Well i woke up extra early today, went to my friends house, got the tires mounted and on the bike, got the front callipers blead.....what a pain that was. Any way, i started the bike up, let it warm up really good, then i went on my way. It ran flawlessly.....except for when i was in 1st gear. I was sitting at a light it turned green, so i layed into it hard and left a nice tire mark at the light . I noticed if i let off the throttle in 1st gear when im at a higher rmp like 5500 or above it will make a crackling/popping noise out of the exhaust. It won't do it in any other gear.....no matter how hard or light i accelerate. Any ideas on what is causing this? Is it normal? Should i be concerned? The bike has the stock z1 903cc motor, 1979 kz 1000 head with the valve cover and the reed covers that have an vacume hose in between them. It has i belive a set of 26mm fresh and clean carbs on there, pod air filters, and a vance and hines 4 into 1 sidewinder exhaust with the competition baffle. Im not sure what the jets are that is in them, but i got them from member roy-b-boy-b, he said they were for a bigger motor bike with header and pods. I will pull the carbs when iget a chance to get the #'s on the jets. I will also pull the plugs to get a reading on them. This thing pulls like a freight train and runs like a raped ape.........just that popping is making me go craxy...........thanks, jim
i have the comp baffle in a hance and hines....they are noisy....i dont get a lean POP, just that raspy decel note that lets you know you are halfway to no baffle....
